43 From FBLA Earn Awards
Forty-three members of the Future Business Leaders of America club placed in the top seven of their respective events at the FBLA Northern Area Competition at Warren Township High School on Saturday.
Nine students earned first-place honors: Kevin Doherty, Gerv Pandey and Akshay Ramachandran (Banking and Financial Systems); Alex Sheck and Zach Sheck (Business Financial Plan); Yamini Chandra (Economics); Becky Cacioppo (Introduction to Business); Lizzy Goldberg (Public Speaking 2); and Jordan Silverman (Sports Management).
Thirteen club members finished second: Chandru Rasendran (Business Calculations); Ellen Kaushansky, Sasha Kupershmidt and Alice Smelyansky (Business Ethics); Jessica Frayman (Business Law); Nikitha Duggirala, Jackie James and Sruthi Merneedi (E-Business); Rahul Kosgi and John Tolbert (Management Decision Making); Shareen Showdhury (Public Speaking 1); and Sai Duggirala and Nikita Patel (Website Design).

Four-Course Offering From PREP
The Patriot Recreation Education Program (PREP) has four classes starting on Thursday, February 2, and it’s not too late to sign up for them. The classes being offered are Introduction to Digital Photography, How to Publish and Market a Book, Get Excited About Looking at Art, and Basic Knife Skills. Girls Basketball
Stevenson 45, Cary-Grove 43: Katie Batman scored four of her game-high 18 points in the final 40 seconds as the host Patriots (18-6) rallied in the fourth quarter for the non-conference win. Batman had a three-point play with 40 seconds left to cap an SHS rally that overcame a five-point deficit to start the final period, then added another free throw in the waning moments. Kari Moffat added 11 points for the Pats, who have won eight of their last nine games. The Trojans fell to 12-8. – Daily Herald (box)
Boys Ice Hockey
Stevenson 2, Lake Forest 1: At Lake Forest College, all the scoring took place in the second period as the Patriots (28-8-5, 17-3-2) prevailed in Metro North play. Austin Kaboff and Bobby Graff scored for SHS, which won its seventh straight game. Robert Biedron, Gregg Anast, Grady Suerth and Zach Spieler all had an assist. Stevenson outshot the Scouts, 34-14, with goalie Corey Benjoya making 13 saves. Lake Forest dropped to 7-9-5 in the Metro North.

Boys Swimming and Diving
Stevenson 111, Loyola 75: On Senior Night, Class of 2012 member Langston Fitts won the 50 free (21.95) and 100 free (47.74), and joined classmates Daniel Shtivelberg, Ryota Kuwahara and Chris Hodges in capturing the 200 free relay (1:28.93) and 400 free relay (3:18.02). Steven McKee, also a senior, won the 200 individual medley (2:02.23). Hodges was second in the 200 free and 500 free, Kuwahara was runner-up in the 100 backstroke, and fellow senior Daniel Budolak touched second in the 100 butterfly. Other second-place finishes came from Weilly Tong (100 breaststroke), Allen Feng (200 IM) and James Lichtenstein (diving). Stevenson’s next appearance in home water occurs February 18, when it plays host to an IHSA sectional.
Eleven Hockey Players Named Metro North All Stars
Eleven players and two coaches from the SHS boys ice hockey varsity and junior varsity teams have been selected to play in Sunday’s Metro North All Star Games. The varsity players named Metro North All Stars are Grady Suerth, Tommy Schroeder, Bobby Graff, Robert Biedron and Sam Schmaren. They will be joined on the bench by their head coach, Jim Wood, who has been named an assistant for the game. The JV all-star selections include Derek Schlin, Evan Baker, Cole Pacchini, Trevor Patten, Jake Samson and Nathan Newmark. JV Head Coach Nick Meo also has been chosen to lead the all-star squad. The all-star games will be played in Northbrook; the JV starts at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity at 7:45.
Moffat Earns Daily Herald Honor
Kari Moffat has been named Daily Herald Lake County Girls Basketball Player of the Week after scoring 40 points in two games last week. Moffat had 18 points in a win over Zion-Benton, and scored a career-high 22 in a loss to Libertyville.

Auditions for the Stevenson Foundation’s spring children’s play, “Jungle Book,” will be held in the Recital Hall (Room 4100) from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, February 1-2. Callbacks and a read-through will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, February 3 in the Recital Hall. Audition information sheets are available in the Fine Arts Office (Room 6080).
The Information and Learning Center is looking for a student aide to work during fifth hour. Students must currently have a fifth hour study hall or a free period to apply. Please ask for Mrs. Gorman at the upstairs circulation desk for more details. This is a paid position.
