Seniors Named to Daily Herald Leadership Team
Seniors Sonia Doshi and Abi Sanka have been selected to the 2011-12 Lake County Daily Herald Leadership Team, which recognizes high school students who excel in volunteerism and community service. They and nine other team members will be featured in a special edition of the newspaper’s Neighbor section on Thursday, February 9. The section will feature profiles of the winning team members as well as the honorable mentions.

Former SHS Dean Named Plano Superintendent
Hector Garcia, who served as a dean of students at Stevenson in the late 1990s, has been named superintendent of the Plano school district. He most recently served as an assistant superintendent in Glenbard School District 87.

Table Tennis Team Prevails
The Stevenson table tennis team beat Maine Township, 11-4, on Thursday, improving to 2-1 on the season. Miles Cushing, Michael Dickens, Jordan Roseman and Chris Song went undefeated in the competition. Vivek Vermani and Michael Li Pang also earned special recognition.

ILC Muralist Named Visiting Artist of the Month
Highland Park painter Doug Smithenry, who is creating a mural for the Information and Learning Center, is the Art Department’s Visiting Artist of the Month for February. Samples of his work will be on display in the Rotunda Gallery, which is located in the 1400 hallway of the West Building. His work is part of a group show that opens tonight at The Octagon Gallery in Chicago.

Attention Students, Staff and Families: Celebrate the diversity of Stevenson and join us for World’s Fair 2012 on Saturday and Sunday, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day. Enjoy ethnic food, drinks, dessert, and entertainment. Performances from around the world begin at 3 p.m. each day in the Performing Arts Center. Learn about the many cultures of the world. Proceeds from World’s Fair benefit Child Reach International.

Turnabout tickets go on sale beginning Tuesday. You can buy tickets online through the SHS Web Store, or in person at the Superstore. Tickets are $20 for Stevenson students and $25 for non-Stevenson guests. Click here for more information.

Auditions for the Stevenson Foundationís spring children’s play, “Jungle Book,” will be held in the Recital Hall (Room 4100) from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Callbacks and a read-through will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, February 3 in the Recital Hall. Audition information sheets are available in the Fine Arts Office (Room 6080).

The Information and Learning Center is looking for a student aide to work during fifth hour. Students must currently have a fifth hour study hall or a free period to apply. Please ask for Mrs. Gorman at the upstairs circulation desk for more details. This is a paid position.

College/Career
Girls interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics: CLC is hosting a girls only career exploration workshop on Saturday, February 25, from 8 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. The workshop will feature X-ray energy, lunar exploration, food science, nanotechnology, ecology and more. Calling all future women engineers: Come to Northwestern University’s “Engineering: The Sky’s the Limit”on Saturday, February 25. The registration deadline is February 10. Information is available in the College/Career Center.

Class/Club
An informational meeting about the Operation Snowball retreat in March will be held Tuesday morning in Room 6044 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. All grades welcome! We hope to see you there!

Sports
An informational meeting for boys gymnastics will be held at 3:45 p.m. today in Room 2113. If you cannot attend, contact Coach Deppong at 847-415-4414 or Coach Mullins at 847-415-4264.

There will be a girls softball informational meeting on Wednesday in the Recital Hall (Room 4100) at 7:30 a.m. and after school at 3:30 p.m. If you are interested in girls softball, please attend one of the meetings. If you cannot attend, please contact Coach Friedrichs at extension 4803.
